The beauty of the backwaters in Valparai, Karnataka, India.

I never imagined that I would see scenery like this while visiting the rainforest of Valparai. It was just incredibly beautiful and serene. A place I would love to visit again <:

Tiny little frogs of the rainforest in Valparai, Karnataka, India.

To get some macro pictures of some of the frogs was really a challenge. When it was pitch black I had to go out into the rainforest ( not alone though ), and listen to the frogs singing and then try to find these tiny creatures. Truly a challenge ! All about team work since light is needed to get any pictures at all.

Lion Tailed Macaques, LTM’s, in the Western ghats of India.

The lion tailed macaque or the wanderoo, is an old world monkey endemic to the Western ghats of South India. It’s one of the most endagered species in the world. And I was lucky enough to meet them, spend time with them and get some great pictures of this amazing creature.

Gentle giants of the jungle.

Elephants are the gentle giants of the jungle. On my last trip to Bandipur I met this amazing flock of female elephants taking care of the baby in the family.

Bengal tigress having a swim in the jungle of Kabini.

It sure was incredible to see this tigress having an evening bath and swim. The Royal Bengal tiger has actually increased in numbers due to all the hard work to protect it. This incredible animal ranks among the biggest wild cats alive today. It’s the National animal of India and Bangladesh.

Hanging with the monkeys.

Since I was in the area (Gurgaon) I just had to see my old “friends” the langurs. It was almost exactly two years since my last visit. This time without my driver Pawan though. He had to give the cab driver directions over the phone so he was kind of involved <:

On the way we drove past the HUGE Hanuman who now has been painted all orange !
that morning I was just hanging with the monkeys
they have amazing tails…..they are so long so they are kind of all over the place <:
time for a dip, or at least a sip.
cool young one just hanging, or stepping on one of those long tails. Just look at those toes on the small one.
They are curious and playful and all over the place.
adorable…<:
Practising……
All of a sudden we saw two Indian mungos among the rocks…..I have to show even if the picture is not very good ( due to the fact that they where far away and I still don’t have any telezoom lens) It kind of looks like it have feathers don’t you think?

I’m sure happy we decided to visit even if the temperature in Delhi/Gurgaon was like 41 degrees celsius already in the morning. It’s such a cool place and amazing encounters.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend dear reader. See you soon.

Bangalore Palace.

The other day we paid a visit to one of the top ten sights here in Bangalore. Well, top ten sights according to some tourist books. I can’t say if it qualifies for the top ten things yet….I need to do some more touristy things first. This is one of the places you have to pay entrance fee. If you then want to use your camera then you have to pay about 5 times the entrance fee !! Mobile users can do whatever they want !!!!!!!!! Irritating I must say. We did get the tour on audio for free though ( safety deposit of course ) and that was good since we did get some history told.

The palace was built between 1874 and 1878 for the young (minor) Maharaja Chamarajendra Wadiyar 10 to live in while under his training in Bangalore. The palace is built in Tudor Revival style architecture.

I found some fun decor like this lamp. Who wouldn’t want to have this one at home?
Living room with amazing ceiling and those amazing windows.
love the iron railing <:
so this was the top spot at the palace. Best pictured from above I think.
The sofa is just beautiful. A really work of art.
Some of the decor was just sad and scary to see but those where the times back then. This is how the wealthy lived at that time. Hunting wild animals and using them as decor was the thing. I just wish they at least could have covered this beautiful elephants head before painting the walls or remove the paint !
Just made me sad !
This made me even more sad. Sad that they don’t have any curator who can keep it in shape or at least knows how to.
Beautiful ….LOVE the lighting in different colours <:
A jockey scale “chair”. First time I have ever seen one like this.
Wouldn’t mind having a green house like this !
zoom in and look at the furniture…..those branches are so huge. The palace grounds have been used for many concerts with international artists.
a beautiful place for a nap

The palace is worth a visit and it takes about an hour to see it all. You would think that since it’s a tourist place they could at least hang the art straight (many many pictures) I learn something new every day and this visit gave me some more insight in the life of the wealthy and the impact the Brits had on how life was lived at the time.

Colourful stroll.

The houses here in the southern parts of India are a lot more colourful so it’s fantastic to have a little early morning stroll down a village street. Well, maybe not in all villages ……but for sure in this !

morning chores in almost every house
narrow alleys used for washing and hanging
this dog was so scared of me first….
the cutest little boy who walked with me and was so interested in the pictures in the camera. It was nice to be able to show him the pictures.
morning dishes and a little chat with a foreigner.
amazing colour scheme….and toe rings !
I love to walk around in neighborhoods , especially when they are so friendly as in this.

I hope you enjoyed the morning stroll and that the colours made you smile. I also hope your week has started out in a good way. Mondays are still Mondays unless you have vacation and maybe some of you have. I’m still struggling to get some sort of routine in my life. I’m that kind of person who needs routines to feel good. Anyhow, enjoy your day either in the grass with a good book or at the office.

Talk to you soon.

The smiling flower lady-the happy “mallaah” maker.

I met this happy mallaah maker just outside one of the many temples around. She looked so happy sitting there on the ground making the necklaces out of flowers. Her friend was sitting right next to her and they where chatting away. Of course I asked before shooting away but once I did this man came over and said ” what about me?” “Nope ladies only” I answered. He didn’t really get that I wasn’t interested in him. That happens when I’m out and about. Sometimes everybody wants their picture taken and sometimes it doesn’t matter if I take the time and show them what they look like. Then again sometimes I needs to stay in the moment. So the flower lady-ladies got all my attention that day.

A trio of ladies and a dog ! Modern and traditional.
Every day she’s out on the street making malaahs and selling them to the people that go into the temple for their praying ceremony – pooja, puja (hindi).
A needle and a thread is all you need and I guess some patience. Meditative work maybe .
While I was there they got some chai and even I was offered a cup but this time I kindly said no, thank you. But just look at that smile <:
There are some flowers that are divine and are the Hindu gods favourites . Red hibiscus, Parijata , Lotus, Marigold, Palash, Tulsi and Jasmine. I’ll try to explain which God prefers which one at another time if that’s ok with you. It needs a post of it’s own.

My little walks around the small “villages” feels like the most rewarding. I just wish that I knew the language so that I could communicate. Remember here they speak Kannada and I’m only familiar with Hindi and the two are so totally different with some few exceptions.

So hang in here and I’ll see if we can practise some words in Kannada. Malaah is the first one you get to learn. The h is silent !

So lets get back into our rickshaw and where we are going next? Let me think…..<:

A village filled with colours-Colours of India.

A morning ride along the road led me into this colourful little village. It was the temple that led me here but I didn’t even get a picture of it. Once I started getting pictures of the village itself I almost forgot about the temple. Then it turned out it was closed anyway. But I had a nice stroll in the tiny village in the early morning.

Walking into the village I never thought it would be colourful at all. I was just aiming for the colourful temple.
Yes, it was the green bucket that caught my attention . Also the electrical wiring that goes via the tree branch up into the palm tree and then ?..( starts between the pink and purple house )
Morning routines. Hair being braided for school and next door the wash is being done.
She was such a pretty girl.
Of course the village little snack shop was open.
Met this lovely lady who had dressed up to match the house, or maybe these where her favourite colours.
She didn’t think she was pretty enough for the picture ! I showed it to her and tried to explain that this is one of my favourite pictures and that she is really beautiful.

Visiting tiny villages out in the country side is something I really enjoy. Especially in the mornings ……before the heat sets in and the sun is too bright for any pictures. Hope you enjoyed the visit today <:
