our little nook of the world looks like the arctic today….I wouldn’t be surprised if a polar bear would reveal itself on the ice along our shore !

A snow storm hit us hard Tuesday and it hasn’t let go of us yet. Hard winds and more snow has made our roads dangerous to drive on. Buses and trains don’t run. Schools are open for those who can walk there. I’m “trapped” out here in the countryside so what to do? Of course I just had to get some picture of all this. It was a little difficult since it was snowing so hard. The lens got snowy as soon as I took out my camera.

First time I’ve seen the water frozen in the harbor. Can’t be good for the boats that are still in the “ice”.

A snow dune that looked like a sand dune that had been built up along the fishing huts.

On the other side the fishing huts where all winter dressed.

The water closest to the shore looked like a slushy drink.

The ice is building up and I couldn’t help but think of the ice age. Is it coming back?

Winter dressed trees and bushes are so beautiful though.

On the day three years ago I sat out here and had my coffee in the sun. (Facebook reminded me today)I washed the windows and did some gardening. Today we didn’t have coffee out here. It was hot coco with rum weather, inside by the fire place. Oops forgot the whipped cream on top.

Red Sea is host to 1200 species of fish and then there’s the animals like turtles, sharks , dolphins and dugongs. Such a beautiful world below the surface.

the stone fish has got to be the ugliest one ( and it’s also dangerous)

and the guitar fish has the cutest snout of them all

Located in Al Barsha south ( next to the Butterfly garden) this park is the biggest flower park in the region. More than 45 million blooming flowers across 72.000 sq/m. An abundance of flowers and at first almost an overwhelming smell from all these flowers. You have to remember that Dubai is all desert so imagine all the water that is needed to keep these flowers alive.

Today I went to Sandhammaren to test some things with my camera. So different around here in the wintertime. A lot less beach but more sea. No people ! Regardless of what time of the year it’s a favorite place of mine. Love to go for walks on the endless beach. Today I went to work with my camera. Testing a filter.

as you can see this is where I removed the filter

refreshed and freezing cold I left this special place curious of how my pictures would turn out. What do you think?

The newly opened ( 2 weeks ago ) Louvre is a must-to-do if in Abu Dhabi. I brought my niece who’s 15 and she really enjoyed it.

the Louvre has 12 galleries, it’s a journey from prehistoric to contemporary art.
Among the Top ten masterpieces to look out for are:
Leonardo da Vinci – La Belle Ferronnière 1490, Vincent Van Gogh Self -portrait 1887, Portrait of Fayoum Egypt Antinoopolis 225-250 A.D., Jacques -Louis David Napoleon crossing the Alps 1803, Claude Monet La gare Saint -Lazare 1877, Bactrian Princess central Asia end of 3rd beginning of 2nd millenium BCE, Jackson Pollock number 26A Black and White 1947,

then you’ll find Miro’, Hopper, Caravaggio, Vermeer, etc etc etc

I must confess that it was the building in itself that caught my attention. Love the architecture. It’s amazing what they can do…..

my companion today

If you plan to visit you need a couple of hours at least.

Yesterday we headed east for Sträntemölla preserve, Forsemölla, Rörums backar, Österlen. This part of the world is truly beautiful.

I love the old stone fences

first part of the fall……

the second part is the highest

there’s something special about waterfalls…our niece said ” it’s like stepping into a Lord of the rings movie” and it truly was…mysterious and magical

we walked through beautiful old deciduous forest

and then all of a sudden we entered “Mandelmanns trädgårds” grounds

with open pasture, summer meadows and rolling “hills”

walked up to the top of a hill where we could see all the way to the sea…

Rörums backar, the hills of Rörum in panoramic view

truly worth a visit if you’re in my part of the world. perfect spot for a picnic.
