Amber along our coast

We’ve had a couple of storms lately and I must say that while it was howling outside I didn’t have one positive thing to say about it. Now it’s totally another story. I must say that I’m quite pleased that we had some storms. All due to the fact that I’ve been finding pieces of amber every other day for the last two weeks. It’s such a joy to go on a treasure hunt along the shore!

Amber is fossilized tree resin and  ows it’s existence to the defence mechanisms of certain kinds of tree. When the bark is punctured or infected, a sticky resin oozes out to seal the damage and sterilise the area. Some species of trees produce such copious quantities of resin that small creatures, as well as leaves and flowers from the trees themselves, get trapped.

It would be nice to make some jewelry out of the pieces, don’t you think?

A winter morning treasure hunt

last week we had some quite windy days…stormy cold wet days….not nice at all…. but after a winter storm I always go treasure hunting along the shore

windy cold and dark….even in the morning

but I found some treasures ( as always)

a big piece of amber

and a piece of an old rusty can.

the clouds where all over and so low this morning…I think the sun was out approx 15 minutes…that was it for the day !

Found amber on the beach

since the storm Urd visited us last night I just had to have a walk along the shore this morning

it was still a lot of force in the gusts…

I almost fell when the wind hit me in the back

if you are lucky you can find some treasures after a storm , and guess what ?

I did find some small treasures…two pieces of amber !   the thing is that I found some black big pieces that I through back since I wasn’t sure if it was amber or not….think I need to go back and see if I can find them again…hmmm…
