Christmas creativity

after making the gingerbread cookies yesterday I was really in the Christmas mood and all of a sudden I found myself making a gingerbread house…wow, I haven’t done one in so many years ( when the kids where tiny tots we usually did)…. it was so much fun..so much that I even did a little Christmas tree, some melted snowmen and a snow lantern of the icing !

now I just have to find a good spot for it…hmmm, I wonder ???

How to get some Christmas feeling in India

living abroad and in a country where daytime it’s still above 30 degrees celsius means you have to find out how to get some Christmas feeling …since today it’s the first Sunday in advent I decided to make gingerbread cookies..that means making the dough from scratch !!!…here are no stores where you can go and pick up some ready -made gingerbread dough like at home home…living in another country also means that you will not find all the ingredients you are used to so some have to be replaced with similar ones…hmmm I’m not sure what these will taste like but it sure smells good and kind of gingersnappy….

I put on some Christmas music and some Christmas lights …if I could make my post into a smelly one I would

some Swedish glögg (mulled wine) has found it’s way all the way to India ! and remember my easy-to-make stars?

if anyone is interested in the recipe please let me know and I’ll post it but I do have to taste them first…will let you know if they are edible and eatable

Everybody needs a hero

Indias no 1 bike, the Hero

by the way

Have you heard about “Hari – a Hero for Hire” ? It’s a book written by the Swedish author Zac O’Yeah who since many years resides in India. After meeting him we just had to get some of his books and see what it was all about. Easy reading and quite entertaining since we can relate to Indian ways.

A big foot from Bigfoot ?

is it Bigfoots big foot ?

dsc_5171

nope, it’s an enormous foot belonging to the statue of the God Hanuman along the road to Faridabad

it’s just huge, about 20-25 meters high and done really well. If you are in the area and driving by you will see it from far away.

Faces of India

actually faces of Jaipur , people I met during my walk in the not -so -famous alleys of Jaipur

dsc_5565

so many places where they made marble work..marble cutters making everything from small pieces to enormous ones…by hand using different tools

first time I visited a sticker cutting factory filled with hundreds of “shape cutters”…I asked if this was the only one around and to my surprise the owner said “oh, no mam, I think here’s around a hundred places like this in Jaipur” !

making and mending all day long

Through the alleys of Jaipur, Rajasthan, India

the other day I walked some of the “off the beaten track” alleys of Jaipur…filled with “old” havelis and beautiful architecture…”old” meaning it sure looks old and worn down but in reality it might not be so old ….as in many places around India you have to look beyond the dirt and the smells to see the beauty…
